Wine: It's a Good Thing

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Martha Stewart will begin marketing her own brand of premium wine.

However, according to the article she won't be competing in the value category. Instead her wines (which will be sourced from Sonoma and made by E&J Gallo) will be priced at $15.00. That's pretty fortunate, because the opportunity for jokes about 'Two Buck Martha' need to be strenuously avoided.

If you were cynical enough, it'd be pretty easy to assume that Stewart is a Yankee carpetbagger reaching all the way across a continent for another marketing opportunity, but I'm not convinced of that. First, I kind of like her, despite some mis-steps she may have made in the past. Second, according to the article her initial release will be 15,000 cases. Gallo sells ten times more wine than that before lunch, seven days a week, every day of the year.

Plus, anything that attracts new consumers to the world of wine consumption, especially in the context of a pleasant and gracious lifestyle is fine with me. Now if only I could convince her to make one of our kit wines on her television show . . .
