Greetings from Lisbon
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
Lisbon! City on the river Tagus, capital of Portugal, home to over 3 million people and host to a long and amazing history in a country of wine and men of the sea. We've only been here one day and managed a small walk, but the architecture and the people are equal--amazing, easy on the eyes and very welcoming to a traveller.
This is all in contrast to our stopover in Frankfurt, where they are apparently leading the competition for least-friendly cold-war era concrete-block and oppressive police-state airport. If you wind up there, be sure to take advantage of all the free patting and x-raying!
But Portugal is a different kettle of people, all of them handsome and friendly. As a bonus the food is wonderfully good here, and wine is not only extremely good but also inexpensive and interesting. I couldn't normally find a 'Super Douro' (traditional Portuguese grapes vinted with the addition of Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah) back home, much less a whole page of them on a wine list.
Off to see a bit of Lisbon. Looks like rain, but that's okay--I'm from the lower mainland of British Columbia and we have gills for this sort of environment.

Heading to Lisbon in July - first ever trip across the Pond - what a VIEW you have posted! Where is that shot taken from - any other travel tips, highlights - all are appreciated - cheers from Ontario!!! I'm told that Sintra and Cascais are worth checking out - still looking around for an affordable, centrally located hotel to choose .... take care.

Sounds amazing Tim, perhaps you remember the name of the restaraunt in the photo. I'm off to Lisbon and simply have to find it.
Wish I did! Unfortunately we were pretty loopy with travel and relying on the kindness of others to squire us around. But dont' worry: you really can't go wrong in Lisbon by picking a restaurant at random and trying them--it's a briliant food city.
