Happy Grounation Day
The Black Lion of Judah
Grounation day is a celebration of the Rastafari movement commemorating the visit of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie to Jamaica in 1966. That visit was one of the most important events in the history of Rastafari and influenced the course of the entire religion, giving respectability to what had previously been an outcast movement.
Rastafari aren't my target audience: their I-tal dietary codes prevent many of them from consuming wine, but I'm on a project of studying other religions and cultures in my spare time. I've learned a lot about other cultures by studying their beliefs and customs. Heck, mainly what I've learned is that most of what I thought I knew was wrong. Funny how as you get older that becomes increasingly apparent . . .
I think I'm going to celebrate with some Bob Marley and Peter Tosh on my iPod on the airplane home. Tomorrow, back to the wine-grind!
