Van-groover

Systems are go! Five, four, three, two . . .

I love Washington state. Every year I spend a week of my vacation on the other side of the Cascade range, touring wine country in the Tri-Cities, Yakima, Columbia Valley, and every other wine region--they pop up like mushrooms after a rain these days.

Vancouver is a very nice little city. The picture above is actually across the street from the hotel where the conference is being held, and is typical of how pretty and well-kept Vancouver is--bit of a jewel, really. It's located on the Columbia River, directly north of Portland Oregon, right at the border between the states. This leads to some funny situations, like serious traffic jams on the bridges, twice a day, and people doing their shopping in tax-free Oregon, but living in Washington because . . . well, I dunno, I guess they have their reasons. According to a Vancouver booster site,

Nice mountain. What's that rumbling noise?

It's easy to understand why the thriving city of Vancouver, Washington is so popular with locals and visitors alike. Vancouver residents love the fact that they have easy access to Portland- without the congestion and traffic of a major city to deal with on a regular basis. In addition, Vancouver is less than 90 miles from the Pacific Ocean, and only an hour or so away from volcanoes like Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood. The temperate climate of the Pacific Northwest makes the greater Vancouver area a "four seasons playground" where people take pride both in the natural beauty of the area and the city's neighborly sense of community spirit.

I'll buy that. As for me, I've got my priorities sorted out. As soon as I land I have to rush out and do some research, strictly for business purposes. It's a hard life, but a good one--if you don't weaken.
