Back to the Future

You know, if you switched a fluorescent ball, you'd save a lot of electricity . . .
I was noodling around on Berry Bros. & Rudd's home page the other day. They're an English wine merchant that's been selling booze to the gentry for a bit (since 1698, apparently) and they're clients include Liz and Phil and anyone with rather a lot of money and a thirst.
In honour of their 310th year in business, BB&R compiled a report on the 'future of wine' (my own short version: 'You will soon be in my belly'). It's an interesting read, both for wine industry types and civilians alike. There are lots of nuggety highlights, like the rise of China as both a bulk producer and a boutique wine country to rival Bordeaux and the ongoing collapse of Australia as a volume producer, but from a domestic pride side of the fence, this bit discussing global climate change caught my eye:
Berrys also believes Canada could experience a similar uplift. While most of the country is currently too cold for wine production, Southern Ontario and Southern British Columbia are already home to several large areas of vines. Currently sitting at no.32 in terms of output(2), Canada, Berrys predicts, could start to rival its American neighbour by 2058.
I guess it's an ill wind that blows no good, but NapaNorth sounds pretty keen.
