Birthday Wishes
What kind of wine goes with cake and olives? Anteater Albarino? Long-nose Nebbiolo?
Some of my friends are celebrating birthdays: Ace and Chester both live in Austin, and the last time I was there visiting Austin Homebrew and Water to Wine I got a chance to visit with them at a barbecue most graciously hosted by Julie-Beth and Dutcher, and attended by most of my imaginary (read: internet-associated) friends. Folks in Texas in general, and Austin in particular are some of the nicest and most hospitable in the world.
Chester is proud papa of The World's Cutest baby, and Ace raises a brood of wonderful savages there as well--he's the author of some great advice on child-rearing. I'll never get to see them often enough, but I'm glad to have a chance to wish them happiest of birthdays and plenty of happy returns of the day.
This week is also my pal Melissa's birthday. She's a reporter and editor for the the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and along with my other pal Lisa (hi!) is just about the best reason to visit Ohio I can think of--well, of course our US distributor is in Kent-Akron, and the Best Blues Band in the Universe is there, but it's the wonderful company of my 'Ohio girlfriends' that makes every trip special. Happy birthday kiddo, and keep being wonderful!
