Drink More Pink, I Think

Dunno about you, but I"m feelin' in the pink
If you're a regular reader of this column, you'll know two things: first, you really need to find more interesting things to do with your leisure time, and second, pink is my favorite colour. For once, it seems that the rest of the world agrees with me!
According to Wines and Vines, in the USA
Sales of rosé wines priced $8 and above grew 53.2% by value and 49.1% by volume during the 52 weeks ending Feb. 9, 2008 (total U.S. food, drug, and major liquor markets), according to the Nielsen Co. Compared to the overall market, rosé sales grew nearly 8 times faster by value and 17 times faster by volume than total table wine sales.
That's significant and truly cool, because the $8+ category is dominated by import rosés and dry versions. It's not just the sweet old goo of 'white' Zinfandel coating the palates of college freshmen, it's real, delicious crisp rosé!
And it isn't just the USA. Decanter magazine reports the same sort of results in the UK:
The popularity of rosé has been confirmed as new figures show the number of regular wine drinkers who drink rosé has risen by over 60% in the last three years.
According to research commissioned by the WSTA, six out of ten wine drinkers now drink rosé compared to less than four out of ten in 2005. (. . .)
WSTA Chief Executive Jeremy Beadles said, 'Even without a good summer it seems the taste for rosé continues to spread. Interestingly, the figures show women have increased their rosé consumption the most'.
Sales in rosé also appear to be on the up, with Sainsbury's reporting a 50% increase in sales the last three years, up 25% on last year.
Our own recent limited quantity release of Winexpert Selection International Spanish Rosé was a smash success, and as soon as people tasted it (crisp, fruity and exquisitely balanced between acidity and perfect off-dryness) they were clamoring for more. Hey, what part of 'limited' did you miss?
Fortunately I've got a couple of batches tucked away for myself, because I can see myself following consumer trends and increasing my consumption!
