Remembrance Day
First things first: my event for Signature Wines in Comox was a huge success!

Would you make wine with these people? Of course you would!
Not only was the event brilliantly organised, in a great venue, with excellent food and good folks to pour wine and talk to attendees, the audience was fabulous: I thought they were awfully quiet at first, but it turns out they were actually paying attention! Gadzooks, it's the quiet ones who surprise you the most. I got a lot of great questions after the lecture, and quite a few of the folks came up to talk about the food and wine pairings and which wines they liked best. Great job, Signature!
It's been a week since I updated the blog, but it's amazing how much stuff you have to wade through when you're only home one or two days a week, and you're getting off the ferry home at 3 am (thank-you BC Ferry Corporation: how are those service cuts working out for you?). We only got the last of the Halloween decorations down this morning, for shame.
Well, not such a shame. Halloween is our favorite holiday: lots of candy and no relatives! Ha, just kidding relatives . . . sure. Just like last year, we weren't in much of a hurry to take it down. I really think that one of these years we're just going to give in and leave it up all year long.
WARNING! Some of the pictures below are a little creepy. Since you're reading a blog about beverage alcohol, I certainly hope you're an adult, but if you're an adult of tender disposition, you may wish to skip over the following shots--they are, after all, of my house.

Care for some lady-fingers?

Pining for the fjords.

Can I take your coat? How about your liver?

Can you stay for dinner?

We really go out on a limb for our dinner guests . . .

After, we'll get cozy by the fire!
Ah, the holiday season: there's nothing like it.
This morning I was in White Rock, fending off requests for edits, stories, reports and emails. I managed a walk on the beach before I left for the plane. It was a balmy 14C (about 58F, not bad for the Pacific Coast in November), sunny and fine.
I landed tonight in Winnipeg just after 11:00 pm and it was minus 14. Sure, it's a dry cold--like that's a comfort when your liver freezes and shatters on the way to the hotel shuttle van.
Tomorrow it's up early and on to lovely Brandon Manitoba. I'm looking forward to seeing all the Winesense crew, Colin, Craig, Wendy, Ben, my compatriot and faithful Prairie companion, Rick and all the fine folks--go Wheat Kings!
After that it's back to my fabulous soundproof suite and three shows here in Winnipeg. Wish me luck, and if anyone has any anti-freeze, send it along right smartly.
