All But The Shooting

I'd ride off into the sunset, except my horse can't swim . . .
My candle burns at both its ends;
It will not last the night;
But oh, my foes, and oh, my friends --
It gives a lovely light.Edna St. Vincent Millay
Dame Edna nailed it: you wanna burn bright, you're going to go through a few candles. Limited Edition touring season has drawn to a close, and I'm back home, and for the first time since September, I'm likely to stay here for more than 48 hours in a row. The picture above was taken from my deck Thursday night, and a more welcoming sight I cannot imagine. I'm holed up nursing the rest of this cold today, trying to convince my cat that I do, in fact live here (offerings of tuna, bacon and belly-skritches are helping somewhat).

Hey, it's that guy who comes here to do his laundry. I wonder if he has bacon?
Even though my candle is a little short right now, there were some great days on the road. My night with the Vineyard was a success, despite my cold acting up. Some folks have pointed out, however, that my photo was a bit out of date: Tom took over operations and Cal is now a retiree jet-setter. Here's a picture of Tom and I on the night:

Peas in a pod?
It's been four years since I did an event with the Vineyard, but there were folks there from the last time, asking questions, enjoying the wines and food pairings, and having a great time. I love talking to Albertans. There's something about their attitudes that's phlegmatic but cheerful, either a holdover from gritty sodbusting days, or perhaps it's oil-patch fatalism where they're used to dealing with anything that comes their way. Gotta love 'em, and everyone has a great sense of humour.
What's next on the horizon? Well, we've got to gather up all the orders for Limited Edition kits (get those in now: we always run out, and the sooner you jump on the list the better your chances are of getting the varieties you want), start producing them and tidying up from that.
For me, I've got a video on Operations Excellence to edit and mash up with our Video production team (hey Jeff!) and there's a US conference coming up in the first quarter of the year where I'll be doing some teaching, I owe a cover-story to Winemaker Magazine (if by 'owe' I mean 'am very very late with') and there's F10 planning, spring promotions, adapting some more material for the US, and I'm getting worked up to do some video blogging in the new year.
Oh yeah, I'm supposed to be blogging regularly here, too--I'll try and stay ahead of that.
