In Like a Lion, Out Like a Light

Tulip mania

We had a pretty rough course of weather here in the lower mainland of BC the last week or so: high winds, downed trees, lashing rain and generally fierce conditions. It seems a little calmer now, with cloud cover, the occasional peek of sun and lovely, snow-capped mountains all around.

I managed to get outside over the weekend and get a picture of some of my tulips, up and growing. The yard is a mess: it hasn't been dry enough for me to cut the grass, but it's been warm enough for it to grow, and there's weeding and I really want to pressure wash the patio and get all the salt-spray off of our windows--living by a northern-coast beach isn't all bikini's and margaritas!

But not this week: Global Vintner's, the group of companies that Winexpert belongs to is having their national sales meeting in Victoria BC, so I'm going to be socked in there Tuesday through Friday, home for the day to see my wife and cats (and do laundry) and then I'm back to Victoria again for the Fermenter's Guild of British Columbia--trade-show and panel discussion and presentation and whatnot.

I'll try to do a little liveblogging from both places, but funny enough when the bosses are paying me to show up they actually expect me to pay attention, so I may be a bit scarce.

When I get back, in addition to gardening I've got to get my tail in gear and get my barrel soaking and ready to go for fermenting some white wines. A little barrel, a little sur lie and before you know it I'll be making some Grand Cru Burgundy. Or, Grand Crew Chardonnay, at least.
